  • Myeong-dong

Myeong-dong is a commercial district located in the center of Seoul and is one of Korea's leading shopping and tourist attractions. Myeong-dong was a residential area for Yangban(Nobleman) during the Joseon Dynasty, but changed into a modern commercial district during the Japanese Colonial Period. Especially since the 1960s, Myeong-dong has established itself as a major downtown area along with economic growth. With various fashion brand stores, department stores, shopping malls, and restaurants crowded together, it has become a place constantly visited by domestic and foreign tourists.

Myeong-dong is also a place that preserves traces of culture and history. Myeong-dong Cathedral is Korea's first Gothic cathedral, completed in 1898. Myeong-dong Cathedral was one of the centers of the independence movement during the Japanese colonial period, and was a symbolic place of the democratization movement in the 1970s and 1980s. Myeongdong Arts Theater is a theater built in the 1930s, where you can watch spectacular performances such as plays and musicals. The historical buildings harmonize with Myeong-dong's modern appearance and add to its charm.

In addition, Myeong-dong is considered a must-visit destination for foreign tourists visiting Korea, and you can purchase goods related to K-pop idols. You can also enjoy Korean street food such as egg bread, hot dogs, tornado potatoes, fried chicken, tteokbokki (Stir-fried Spicy Rice Cake), and hotteok (Griddlecake with Sugar Filling). Myeong-dong is crowded with tourists all day long due to its convenient transportation. This place has established itself as a complex cultural space where various cultures coexist such as fashion, beauty, and food.
