  • Seongsu-dong

Seongsu-dong is located in Seongdong-gu, Seoul, where you can easily see old factories and warehouses built with red bricks. Because this place was an industrial zone where textile / leather factories were concentrated until the 1990s. Since 2005, the number of closed factories in Seongsu-dong has increased and the population has decreased. However, young artists and new designers began to gather, and Seongsu-dong quickly emerged as a cultural complex in Seoul. This place, which was an old factory area, was transformed into a cultural and artistic space and became a new model for urban regeneration.

So, when you go to Seongsu-dong, you can come across many art spaces without signboards, studios occupying shabby factories, and murals painted in warehouses. These changes created a unique mood to Seongsu-dong, where the old & the new harmonize. In addition, as cultural spaces such as cafes, restaurants, and independent bookstores are established, young people and tourists continue to visit. There are many famous bakeries and restaurants, so you can easily see people are standing in a row to the stores and waiting early in the morning. In addition, Seongsu-dong is also famous as ‘Handmade Shoes Street’, where you can find high-quality handmade shoes made by master artisans.

There is also Seoul-(Soop)Forest, the largest park in Seoul. Since ancient times, it has been used as the king's hunting ground, golf course, horse race track, and sports park, but in 2005, it became the current Seoul-Forest. Artists and young merchants are also gathering near Seoul Forest to create a sensuous street. In the future, Seongsu-dong will continue to grow into an area where creative ideas and cultures blend.
