  • EOMUK (Fishpaste)

EOMUK is a widely loved snack and street food in Korea, made by grinding various seafood, meat, and vegetables into a paste. There is a hypothesis that fish cake originated during the Joseon Dynasty, but was spread under Japanese influence during the 20C's enlightenment period. Initially, it was mainly EOMUK imported from Japan, but it gradually developed into Korean-style EOMUK.

EOMUK is a food made by kneading mashed fish flesh with salt, sugar, starch, and cooking liquor, then shaping it into various shapes and steaming, baking, or frying it. Korean fish cakes can be easily found at street restaurants, food stalls, and supermarkets. It's usually served as street food and eaten dipped in soup. EOMUK soup is made using soy sauce, kelp, and anchovies, and it enhances the flavor of the fishpaste. EOMUK are also eaten as a meal replacement, and are sometimes served with TTEOKBOKKI(Stir-fried Spicy Rice Cake Sticks). EOMUK, which has a chewy yet soft texture, is often eaten as a side dish at home, such as stir-fried EOMUK or EOMUK stew. It's also loved as a delicious snack that warms the whole body in winter.
